Peter Battistella, 94, of Vineland passed away on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at South Jersey Healthcare HospiceCare in Bridgeton, after a brief illness.
Peter was born on Aug. 5, 1918, to the late Joseph Battistella and Pierina (Morello), who passed away after childbirth. Peter was raised by his father and stepmother, Virginia (Stringari) Battistella. He attended Vineland schools and was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Peter served during World War II in the Army as a staff sergeant earning several medals. Upon returning back to Vineland after the war, he was employed as a butcher at Morello, Marcacci and Morvay's Meat Markets. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, Sunday morning trips to Shop Rite on Lincoln and Landis and trips about town with Donny Trucano.
He is survived by his sister, Cecelia Maines of Millville; niece, Virginia Battistella of Vineland; nephew and wife, Richard and Lillian Battistella of Millville; niece and husband, Joan and John Groth of Georgia; niece and husband, JoLinda and Russell Dagostino of Texas; cousins, John and Florence Morello, Donny Trucano, Elinor Leonardo and Dr. Tressa Brown; as well as many cousins, great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Pio, Joe and Fabio Stringari, and Hugo and Henry Battistella; and his sisters, Lena (Stringari) Fava and Mary (Stringari) Steelman.
A funeral home visitation will be held today from 11 a.m. to noon followed by a funeral service at noon from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 E. Chestnut Ave., Vineland. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
