Philamena D. Pendola Obituary

Philamena D. Pendola of Vineland, 88, died peacefully Saturday morning, July 13, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Newfield to the late Anthony and Josephine (Cottone) Fantini..

After graduating Vineland High School Class of 1942, Phil went to work for Limpert Brothers in Vineland, followed by her employment at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Philadelphia, until her marriage to Jacob Pendola in June 1946. Philamena then returned to work in 1959 at Vineland Developmental Center, where she worked for more than 30 years. Throughout her life she was active in both church and civic organizations. She was a member of the St. Rita Society of St. Joseph Church in Richland, and active in the PTO at Richland School and St. Mary's School in East Vineland, and was also active with parent organizations at St. Augustine Prep and Our Lady of Mercy Academy.

Phil was a voting monitor for elections in the late '50s through the '60s while living in Richland, and was a member of the Women of the Moose for many years, serving in several capacities including Senior Regent for the Vineland Chapter. Phil was a member of St. Padre Pio Parish and a Communicant at Our Lady of Pompeii Church, where she was part of the Seniors Group.

She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and bingo, and spending time with her grandchildren. Along with vacations with her family at the Jersey seashore, she loved visiting family in Florida and enjoyed trips to the AC casinos.

An avid Phillies fan, Phil was always rooting on the home team.

She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Francis B. and Mary Anne Pendola, Mystic, Conn.; daughter, Patty Pendola, Vineland; granddaughter and her husband, Shana and Michael Hill, Kissimmee Fla.; granddaughter, Kate Pendola, Orlando, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Vito & Ann Marie Fantini; brother, Dominic Fantini; son-in-law, Gus Colon; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob C. Pendola; a son, Anthony Pendola; and daughter, Jacqueline (Pendola) Colon.

A church visitation will be held on Wednesday from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. from St. Padre Pio Parish-Church of Our Lady of Pompeii, 4680 Dante Ave., Vineland.

Interment will follow in St Mary's Cemetery-Vineland.
