Thomas "Tom" Ballard, 75, of Minotola passed away at home on Sunday afternoon, July 7, 2013, where he had been under the care of family and hospice.
Tom was one of seven children born to the late Sophie (Gengenbacher) and Edward H. Ballard. He was born and raised in Milmay and was a longtime resident of Vineland. After his retirement, he enjoyed living in West Virginia prior to returning to New Jersey in 2006. Tom was predeceased by his son-in-law, Randy Whisler; brothers, Edward and William; and a sister, Nellie Saxton
Tom retired in 1993 with 30 years of service from the Owens-Illinois Kimble Glass Co., where he was employed as a warehouse foreman. Tom also served for 30 years with the Vineland Police Department, retiring as the captain of the Special Police Officers. Tom was a charter member of the Milmay Gunning Club and served as a captain in the Milmay Fire Company and the N.J. National Guard. Tom attended the Newfield U.M. Church, was a member of the Vineland Recreation Club and had served as an officer in the Kimble Federal Credit Union. He was a former president of the Vineland SPCA. Tom enjoyed driving and taking car trips, watching the Phillies and NASCAR racing, and going to breakfast with Bob and Tony.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley (Nuttall); three children, Thomas J. (Kim) Ballard, Wendy Whisler and Gayle (Mike) Gates; five grandchildren, Brett (Sarah), Brittany, Kyle, Robert and Jennifer; future great-grandson Liam, expected in August; three sisters, Doris Kinkade, Sophia Barbetti and Eileen (Al) Trivelli; his furry friends, Jack and Maxx; as well as many nieces and nephews
Relatives and friends will be received on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Pancoast Funeral Home, 676 S. Main Road, Vineland, where his funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Burial will be private in the Greenwood Memorial Park, Millville.
