Vincent R. Scari, 86, of Vineland died peacefully at his home on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, with his wife of 64 years by his side.
Vincent was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. He moved to Vineland and has resided here for more than 50 years. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and saw combat with the 1st Marine Division in World War II on Okinawa and Peleliu. He was a Purple Heart recipient. A salesman for most of his life, Vincent retired as a relocation officer for the city of Vineland. Vincent was an avid baseball fan and coached for the Vineland Babe Ruth League for more than a decade, where he was affectionately known as "Pops."
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Audrey (Hynes) Scari; loving children, Steven (Robin) Scari, Linda (Gabriel) Wynters and Michael (Suzanne) Scari; and grandchildren, Gabriel, Stefanie, Cameron, Jennifer and Jessica, who they lovingly called Poppy. He is also survived by his sisters, Beatrice Solomine and Josephine DeCicco; and brother, Anthony (Catherine) Scari; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral home visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. from Rone Funeral Service, 1110 East Chestnut Ave., Vineland. Interment will follow in Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery, Bridgeton.
