Frederick Robert Gerrity, Jr., age 79 of 747 Wesauking Dr., Towanda, Pa., passed away peacefully at the Towanda Skilled Nursing Unit on Friday, May 9, 2014.

Fred was born Aug. 19, 1934 in Scranton, Pa., to Frederick and Sarah Joyce Gerrity Sr.

He attended Coughlin High School and graduated from George Brown College with a degree in Denturism.

Fred served 8 years with the U.S. Naval Reserve. He owned and operated the Bradford Denture Center in Towanda, Pa., for 45 years serving many less fortunate patients with pride and dedication, until 2006 when he retired due to illness.

Fred was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Parish in Towanda, serving on the school board of St. Agnes School, The Holy Name Society, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and was a Grand Knight and a Faithful Navigator, BPOE Elks No. 2191 Towanda serving as a Trustee for 8 years, Towanda American Legion Post No. 42, National Denturist Association and served as president for 8 years. While in the association he received the 2002 Denturist of the Year Award and also the Brotherhood of Sterkenburgers Award which has been awarded to only 10 Denturist in the United States. Fred was one of the founders of Serve Inc. and was also a volunteer ambulance driver in Towanda for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Connie; daughter Erin; son Patrick and Terri; grandchildren Skyler, Coleton and Logan; brother Martin; sisters Helen Maygar, Jenny Comitz, and Sally and Mitchell Maxwell.

He was predeceased by three children Frederick III, Christopher and Leo; his parents; brothers Joseph and Gerald; sisters Ann Marie Martin and Joyce Sladin.

A Mass in Celebration of Fred's life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday May 12, 2014 at Ss. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church, Third Street, Towanda, Pa. Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 will accord military honors at the church. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. Towanda Elks Lodge No. 2191 will hold a service of remembrance Sunday at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be offered to Ss. Peter & Paul Church, 106 Third St., Towanda, Pa., or St. Agnes School, 102 Third St., Towanda, PA 18488 in Fred's memory. Memories and condolences may be expressed by visiting
