Joseph L. Leonard, age 69 of Gillett Pa., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at home.

He was born June 25, 1943, the son of the late Joseph E. and TeDesco Spencer Leonard. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda Darrow Leonard; daughter, Mary Ann Leonard Sheets; grandsons, Ethan and Adam Sheets; sister, Halilah Lutz; nephew, Michael Lutz and his family.

Joe was employed by IBM Corporation for 28 years and was the fire chief of the South Creek Volunteer Fire Department for 26 years. He was a life member of both the South Creek Fire Department, Gillett, Pa., and the Innes Hose Company, Canton Pa., as well as a life member of VFW Post 714 of Canton, Pa. Joe was a former Supervisor of South Creek Township, a former President of the Bradford County Fire Chiefs' Association and served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966. Also a 1961 graduate of Canton High School, Canton, Pa.

Joe was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, and he sure loved his antique cars and his dogs. He will be greatly missed by, not only his family, but by all who knew him.

Calling hours will be held 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the South Creek Volunteer Fire Department Corner of Route 14 and Roaring Run Road, Fassett, Pa. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your local volunteer fire department or animal shelter.
