Mr. Ronald A. (Art) Hampsey, age 72 of 375 Andrea Lane, Milan, Pa., formally of Laceyville, Pa., passed away on Thursday afternoon, May 3, 2012 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.

Art was born in Meshoppen, Pa. on Feb. 22, 1940, a son of the late Arthur Paul Hampsey Jr. and Evelyn Staights Hampsey.
Art was in the final graduating class of the Meshoppen High School class of 1957. He was retired from Osram Sylvania where he worked as a laboratory technician for 33 years.
Prior to his career with Sylvania, he worked for Ansco in Johnson City, N.Y. and served his country in the United States Army as a Radio Intercept Specialist at Fort Jackson, S.C. and Fort Hood, Texas.
He lived a full life starting in scholastic athletics as a basketball and baseball letterman. He participated in numerous adult softball and basketball leagues in his younger years.
Later he touched many lives as a little league baseball and men's softball coach of many championship teams in the area. He also served as a volunteer firefighter and was an assistant chief for the Laceyville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company. Art enjoyed hunting, camping and traveling. He spent life after retirement, golfing and traveling the United States and
Western Europe. Art wintered many years in Dunellon, Fla. as a Pennsylvania snowbird, visiting with other retirees from the Towanda area. He loved collecting and is remembered as a friend to all he encountered.
Art was a loving father, uncle and grandfather. He is survived by his son Ronald Arthur Hampsey II his wife Gabrielle and three granddaughters; Casey, Jamie and Molly all of Tunkhannock, Pa.; his son Russell Hampsey; granddaughter, Christina and grandson, Nicholas all of Tampa, Fla.; and his daughter, Rebecca DePue and her husband Matthew, of Montrose, Pa. Also his step-daughters, Brenda Polons of Meshoppen, Pa. and Karen Maxwell, of Wyalusing, Pa.; his brothers Robert and his wife Elaine Hampsey, of Montgomery, Ala. and Donald Hampsey, of Laceyville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Art is also survived by his long time companion with whom he lived with for the last few years Mary Lacey of Milan, Pa. Besides his parents, Art was preceded in death by an infant son, Randall Hampsey, and an infant daughter, Rhonda Hampsey, as well as his sister, Naomi O'Sullivan.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville, Pa., with Rev. Wade Clauser, of the Herrickville Hope Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen, Pa.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Graveside military services will be conducted at the Overfield Cemetery with the members of the Rought Hall Post No. 510 American Legion, the Dennis Strong Post No. 457 American Legion and the Endless Mountains Post No. 3583 VFW.
