Madison - Following a recent illness, Albert David Young Jr. of Madison, passed away on Aug. 23, 2013.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Frazier) Young of Madison; three children, Elaine Y. Giggi of New Canaan, Margaret P. Young of Southfields, N.Y., and A. David Young lll of Audubon, Pa.; and step-children, Donald L. Frazier of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and Dr. Shelley Frazier Pelletier of Old Saybrook. Mr. Young is also survived by his brother, Vernon Young of Boxford, Mass; his sister, Cheryl Guenther of Rochester, N.Y.; and grandsons, Ryan and Tyler Giggi of New Canaan.
He was predeceased in 2005, by his first wife, Lucella Young.
Mr. Young was born in Boston, in December 1927. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, N.H.; the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, and Akron University, Akron, Ohio. He was a Coast Guard aviator and a veteran of World War ll and Korea. He retired with the rank of captain, U.S. Coast Guard Reserve.
ln civilian employment, he worked for Exxon Corp., and later as a consultant in environmental engineering with Mclaren-Hart Environmental Management Co., New York City. ln addition to consulting duties, he wrote three textbooks on petroleum storage tank technology for general industry use, as well as numerous articles on environmental technology for technical publications.
He was a past member of the American Society of Petroleum Engineers, the American Society of Lubrication Engineers, and past vice chairman of the Board of Directors, U.S. Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Madison, the Madison Winter Club, the Madison Beach Club, and the Westbrook Elks.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sept. 15, 2013, at the First Congregational Church in Madison.
