Askia Bobby Sneed Obituary
Groton - Askia Bobby Sneed, 62, of Groton, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 10, 2014. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Karen J. Hatcher-Sneed and his son, Joshua Marc Hatcher-Sneed.

Born on March 6, 1952, in Henderson, N.C., he was predeceased by his father, Charles Nelson Sneed Sr.; mother, Lillie Bullock Sneed; brother, Charles Sneed Jr.; and sisters, Lois Carrion and Jenny Garcia.

Besides his wife and son, he leaves behind brothers, James Sneed and his wife, Joyce, Willie Sneed; and sisters, Mary Glover, Lucille Taylor, Annie McWhite, Lucy Tinsley; and countless relatives and friends.

Askia's first love was medicine, graduating from Albany Medical College, N.Y. He spent many years employed as a research scientist. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends dispensing worldly advice and debating politics. He was an avid home improvement enthusiast, having multiple projects going on at the same time to the dismay of his wife. Prior to his passing, he was working on becoming a Freemason with Jepthah #11 Prince Hall Masonic Lodge in New London.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. The service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, at St. James Episcopal Church, 76 Federal St., New London. A reception will take place immediately following the service. A private burial will be held on Thursday, May 15, at the New Willimantic Cemetery, Route 32, Willimantic.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Center for Hospice Care Southeast Connecticut, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360, in memory of Askia B. Sneed.
