North Stonington - Bobby M. Blanchard, 85, of North Stonington, entered eternal life on March 28, 2014.|
He was born Nov. 30, 1928, in Texas, the son of the late Arch and Tassie (Kain) Blanchard. He graduated from Freeport High School, class of 1947, and enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard. Mr. Blanchard was a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran during his 29 years of service. He retired at the rank of master chief.
He was united in marriage to the former Frances Aquitante on July 14, 1951, in St. Joseph Church, New London. Mrs. Blanchard survives him.
He retired from the Town of Groton, working in transportation. He was a member of the VFW Post, Pawcatuck, and the U.S. Coast Guard Retired Chiefs Association.
Besides his beloved wife of 62 years, he is survived by two children, Diana Matthews of North Stonington and Philip Blanchard of Preston; three siblings, Hugh and Roger Blanchard, and Patsy Jean Broudreux, all of Texas; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Janet Cich in 1995, and a sister, Una Joyce Blanchard.
His family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Family and friends are asked to gather for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 87 Mystic Road, North Stonington. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New London, with military honors.
