Mystic - Donald G. Ferry, 81, of Mystic, husband of Elaine (Berg) Ferry, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Academy Point in Mystic.

Born in Fall River, Mass., he was the son of the late John and Mary (Gomes) Ferry. Don moved to southeastern Connecticut in 1957, where he began his engineering career with Electric Boat. After several years with EB, he sold insurance for New York Life Ins. Co. before returning again to engineering, working for various firms specializing in automatic machines.

Don was an avid gardener, but his favorite passion was cooking for or with his service organizations and clubs. He was a life member of the Mystic VFW Post 3263 and the Pawcatuck VFW Post 1265, as well as the Military Order of the Cootie. Don also was a member of the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society in Stonington and Fall River, Mass., German Club, Norwich Polish American Veterans, Mystic Rotary, Masons and the Loyal Order of the Moose.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean war, honorably discharged in 1956.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Catherine Ferry of Norwich, and Diana McCue and her husband, Scott, of Pocasset, Mass.; and a brother, Alfred Ferry and his wife, Annette, of Hollywood, Fla.

He was predeceased by a son, Vincent J. Ferry.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic. A service will held at 4 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home, immediately followed by military honors. Burial will be private.
