New London - Frederick "Fritz" Gressler, 89, of New London, entered eternal life on Monday, July 14, 2014.|
He was born June 3, 1925, in Northampton, Pa., the son of the late Frederick and Jenny (Curry) Gressler. Mr. Gressler was a World War II veteran serving in the Coast Guard. He was united in marriage to the former Helen Kalinowski on Sept. 22, 1945, in Our Lady of Perpetual help Church in New London. Mrs. Gressler died Dec. 9, 2010.
Mr. Gressler was employed as foremen at the former Tunxis Sportswear Mfg., retiring in 1986 after 40 years. He was a life member of the Polish Veterans and a trustee of the Polish Club in New London. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, serving as a trustee and member of the Holy Name Society. He called Bingo at the church for 19 years.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Maureen Gressler of Niantic; two grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Terri Gressler and Cynthia and Don Navit; and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Kassandra Gressler and Arthur and Amelia Navit.
He was predeceased by his two children, Richard Gressler and Barbara Donoghue; and seven siblings, Alfred, Carl and Gerry Gressler, Letha Vandergrift, Mary Wagner, Caroline Mentzer and Joyce Stubbler.
His family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. The funeral will assemble at 9 a.m. Monday, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery with military honors.
