Norwich - Gwendolyn Grace Johnson, 81, of Norwich, passed away on Nov. 28, 2013, surrounded by her family.|
She was born July 11, 1932, in Providence, to the late John and Eva Clegg.
She married Frederick W. Johnson Jr. in Pawtucket, R.I. He predeceased her.
She grew up in Riverside, R.I., with her five brothers, Bob, John, Dick, Bill, and Wally, as well as her half sister, Dorothy, who all predeceased her.
She graduated from East Providence High School and was a member of the American Guild of Variety Artists in her youth. She spent most of her adult life in Norwich and Uncasville, until retiring to Florida. She moved back to Norwich to be with her family.
She loved doing ceramics, sewing, gardening, and socializing with friends. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Sachem Chapter #57, American Legion Auxiliary, and Women of the Moose.
She is survived by her sons, Frederick W. Johnson III and his wife, Claudette, of Lisbon, Robert F. Johnson and his wife, Janet, of Norwich; three grandchildren, Frederick W. Johnson IV of Griswold, Kerri and Jillian Johnson of Norwich; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Masonic Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Center for Hospice Care Southeast Connecticut, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360.
