Seekonk, Mass. - Lawrence G. Demers, 90, of Seekonk, formerly of Groton, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Sunny View Nursing Home in Warwick, R.I.|
He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on Oct. 31, 1923, the son of Alcide and Marie (Racette) Demers. Larry married Cecilia Brown on June 1, 1946 in St. Johnsbury. Cecilia passed away June 25, 2007.
After graduation from high school, Larry joined the Army Air Force serving as a flight engineer on B-24 bombers during World War II. While in the service he received numerous awards and medals. After the war, he went to work at Electric Boat Company in Groton where he worked for 36 years as a nuclear inspector, retiring in 1990.
He was a life member of the Groton Lodge of Elks.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Joanne Golembeski and Lorraine Green, both of Ledyard; and his son, Lawrence Demers of Seekonk, Mass.; his sisters, Aline Demers of Burlington, Vt., Theresa Chiasson of Goose Creek, S.C. and Jeanne Brown of Manchester; as well as five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Interment will be in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 10 until the time of the service Monday.
