New London - Nicholas Verbillo, 94, of New London, entered eternal life on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

He was born Feb. 17, 1920, in New London, the son of the late Andrew and Rose (Rudka) Verbillo. He graduated from the former Bulkeley School, Class of 1938 and was on the varsity basketball team.
He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut in 1942 and was a member of the Sigma No Fraternity. In 1943 during World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. He attended officer training at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy as an ensign and was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of lieutenant. He was united in marriage to the former Alma Marcucci on Aug. 28, 1948 in Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Verbillo died in April of 2013.
Mr. Verbillo received his master's degree in 1947 from the University of Connecticut in business administration and was employed at Post Junior College in Waterbury from 1947 to 1951. He later worked at the former Robert Geer Co. in Montville, which became Continental Can Co. as supervisor until 1967. From 1968 to 1984 Mr. Verbillo taught at Kelly Jr. High School and Teachers Memorial Jr. High School in Norwich upon his retirement. He was a member of the New London Lodge of Elk's # 360, life member of the VFW and played in the City Basketball League for the "Bachelors".
A niece survives him, Linda and husband, Stanley Rubin, of Mystic.
He was predeceased by two siblings, Alex Verbillo and Helen Stuart.
His family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave. New London. A funeral home service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, followed by interment in Jordan Cemetery with military honors.
