Montville - Richard L. Hyatt, 70, of Uncasville, died on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at home.

Mr. Hyatt was born on Dec. 1, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of James R. and Rose Hyatt. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1961 and went on to attend Ohio State University.
From 1964 to 1980, he worked as a firefighter for the City of Dayton, Ohio, while also serving first as the president of Dayton Firefighters Local 136 and then as the president of the Ohio Association of Professional Firefighters. Following his retirement as an active duty firefighter, he went on to become a staff member at the International Association of Firefighters in Washington, D.C.
Following retirement after 20 years of service at the IAFF, Mr. Hyatt moved to Connecticut to be near his daughter and grandson, who were the lights of his life.
Mr. Hyatt is survived by Sharon, his wife of 51 years; as well as his daughter, Trisha, and grandson, Jack Potter.
In keeping with Mr. Hyatt's wishes, there will be no visitation, funeral service, or memorial.
