Tequesta, Fla. - Robert B. Abbe, 95, of Riverbend Country Club, Tequesta, Fla., died on Nov. 1, 2010.

The son of the late Walter and Miriam Abbe Jr., was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on May 26, 1915. He was a graduate of The Kent School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in civil engineering. Bob lived in Windham Center and Groton Long Point before moving permanently to Florida in 1987.
After college Bob worked for Bethlehem Steel before joining Smith-Winchester Mfg. Co., in South Windham, as a senior executive. Later he joined the faculty of Thames Valley State Technical College where he taught until his retirement in 1975.
Bob was an active volunteer. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years. A member of the several volunteer fire departments and was always on call for the Red Cross. Bob was an active lay reader at St. Paul's in Windham Center, St. Mark's in Mystic, and Church of the Good Shepherd in Tequesta, Fla. He was a lifelong Rotarian and was active in his fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa (Epsilon Deuteron Chapter), and was PSK's national president in 1962 to 1964. Bob's hobbies included playing golf, bridge, and calling bingo.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; daughter, Susan Abbe (Carl Austin) of Durham; son, Patton Abbe (Christine Brocks) of Coral Springs, Fla.; granddaughter, Brie Abbe (Mwaura Ngoima); and a great-grandson, Rio Mwaura of Brooklyn, N.Y.
A Memorial Eucharist will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 400 Seabrook Road, Tequesta. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Church of the Good Shepherd, Hospice of Palm Beach County, or a charity of donor's choice.
