Groton - Steven William Bendfeldt, 67, of Groton, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Chelsea Place Care Center in Harford, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

He was born on Sept. 24, 1946, in New London, to the late Herman and Elizabeth (Beebe) Bendfeldt. He attended college in Michigan and had a master's degree in Chinese history. Steven, Airman 2nd Class, served his country honorably in the U.S Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
On Nov. 23, 1996, he was united in marriage to Pamela Butts at the home of Dian and Sherwood Anderson, his sister and brother-in-law, in East Lyme.
He was last employed in security at Foxwoods Casino. Steven and his wife enjoyed canoeing.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Bendfeldt; his sisters, Betty Ann Collins and her husband, Raymond, of Virginia, Judith Gallicchio of Florida, and Teresa Campbell of Groton; and brothers, E. Peter Bendfeldt and his wife, Joan, of Waterford and Seth Bendfeldt and his wife, Melissa, of Montville; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Florence Frazier, Dian Anderson, and Marlene Douglas; and brothers, Kendrick and Herman "Jerry" Bendfeldt.
His ashes will be scattered over the waters that he enjoyed so much. He will be remembered for his beaming smile and upbeat personality. A private service will be held at a later date.
