Ledyard - Thomas W. Champlin of 42 Kings Highway, Gales Ferry, passed peacefully from this world on the evening of Wednesday, May 9, 2012.

Thomas was born in Norwich on Sept. 16, 1918. He spent his early years working on area farms and then joined the Army to proudly serve his country in World War II. He then worked at Electric Boat, retiring after 29 years. Thomas loved working outdoors, watching the Red Sox and reading.

He married his wife of 62 years, Alice Avery, on Jan. 21, 1950, she survives him. He is also survived by a large extended family that includes four children, Vincent Champlin and wife, Pamela, of North Stonington, son, Stephen Champlin of Ledyard, daughter, Brenda Morse and husband, Andy, of East Lyme, daughter, Elaine Koch and husband, Dan, of St. Mary's, Ga., and daughter-in-law, Nancy Champlin of Ledyard. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law; and special friends and neighbors Mike and Patty Congdon.

He was predeceased by a son, Russell I. Champlin.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
