Vito J. Labrecque Sr. Obituary
Norwich - Vito J. Labrecque Sr., 77, passed away on Nov. 27, 2013, at New London Rehab and Care Center in Waterford.

He was born on July 7, 1936, in Taftville, to the late Joseph and Gertrude (Leduc) Labrecque.

He married Ruth M. (Talbot) Labrecque on July 4, 1957, at St. Patrick Cathedral in Norwich.

Vito retired after 35 years with the State of Connecticut, Norwich Hospital as an assistant laundry manager.

Vito was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps and remained a devoted Marine his entire life. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 104 in Taftville, the Sprague Rod and Gun Club, a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #950 of Bozrah for 45 years, and a 35-year Ritual Team Member for the Loyal Order of the Moose. In 2010, he received the highest order of Pilgrim Degree of Merit at Mooseheart, Ill. He was a life member of the Korean War Veteran's Association, the 3rd Marine Division, and the NRA. He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing, traveling, and was a history buff and a "Jack of all trades."

His greatest joy in life was his family, especially his grandchildren.

Besides his loving wife, Ruth, he leaves behind a son, William Labrecque and his wife, Karen, of Griswold; a son, Vito "Joe" Labrecque Jr. and his wife, Laura, of Pawcatuck; and a sister-in-law, Betty Hobro of Norwich. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Kristina Wendell and her husband, Brian Wendell, Nicholas Labrecque and his companion, Samantha Castner, Ashley Labrecque and her companion, Sean Lynch, Richard Roberts and his companion, Alexis Baker, and Kellie Labrecque and her companion, Zachary Semmelrock.

He was predeceased by his loving sister, Rita Pora.

The family would like to give special thanks for the love and care that was provided by the staff of the North Wing at the New London Rehab and Care Center in Waterford.

Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday at St. Patrick Cathedral in Norwich. Friends and family may assemble at the funeral home at 8 a.m. and proceed to the church. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich with full military honors.
