Andrew Campbell, a 22-year resident of Palm Desert and Desert Cities, Calif., died in Alconbury, England while serving as a Petty Officer in the US Navy. Born in 1985, Andrew was a graduate of the College of the Desert, a sustained Dean's List recipient, who achieved dual Associate of Arts degrees. Andrew's interests were diverse and wide-ranging, balancing his "techy" nature with a love of the natural world. He enjoyed the beach, mountain biking in Arizona, and hiking in and around Palm Desert, achieving several local peaks, including Mount San Gorgonio. He signed on with the US Navy in 2011, serving proudly as a force for good in the world. Andrew posted to England in 2013, and is remembered by his fellow sailors as an outgoing companion who enjoyed tourism and adventure. Andrew is survived by a loving family and many friends, including his mother Jacqueline (George) Kovacs of Redondo Beach, Calif.; father Clayton (Lalaine) Campbell of Rancho Mirage, Calif.; grandparents Len and Joan Cox of Payson, Ariz. and Gladys and Albert (deceased) Campbell of Beaumont, Calif. The Memorial Service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Palos Verdes Estates on Monday December 23, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. A private burial service with Military Honors will take place at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greenpeace, The World Wildlife Fund, or The Nature Conservancy. Please go to Rice Mortuary's website, to send the family messages, share memories, or to obtain directions to the services.
