Evelyn "Ev" Kelly Deel, 94, of La Quinta, Calif. passed away December 17, 2013 in La Quinta of heart failure. She was born June 28, 1919 in New Orleans, La. to William Klein and Martha Pflueger Klein. The youngest of five children: Ethel, John, Wallace and Ralph, she attended schools in New Orleans and won the state-wide typing contest while in High School which earned her a full scholarship to Louisiana State University. It was her life-long regret that her parents refused to allow her to go to school 60 miles away. She went to work as a secretary and married Peter Kelly. They later moved to Los Angeles, after relocating to many cities. Ev became a highly regarded legal secretary in Beverly Hills where she was President of the Legal Secretaries Association of Los Angeles. She married William "Bill" Deel in August, 1961. They retired to Rancho Mirage in 1987, where Ev enjoyed playing golf and bridge at Monterey Country Club, baking cookies for her church where she was a Deacon, attending meetings of Rancho Mirage Woman's Club, and traveling the world. She was known for her gourmet cooking, her martinis, being a published author of "The Virgin Wife", and her love of her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings and by Bill in 1989. Ev, Granny, GG is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Bruce) Froehlich of Rancho Mirage, step-son, Patrick (Lynn) Deel of Las Vegas, Nev., grandchildren Wendy Fraser (David) Harlan of Oceanside, Andrew (Tami) Fraser of La Quinta, Kelly Deel Centano and Shannon Deel (Victor) Pallet, and great-grandchildren: Sean Renken, Peyton and Kylie Fraser, Nicole and David Centano and Samantha and Amanda Pallet.
