John J. Honnessy

John J. Honnessy, age 86, of Norwalk and wife of the late Antoinette Delia Honnessy, died suddenly at the Norwalk Hospital on Saturday, February 8. Born in Norwalk on April 22, 1927, he was the son of the late Charles and Rose Honnessy.
Survivors include two daughters Delene Dominick, Mary Ann Tamburri and her husband Joseph; grandchildren Joey Dominick and his wife Jen, Gina Thiel and her husband Paul, and Lisa Tamburri. Also surviving are a brother-in-law Joseph Delia; a sister-in- law Mary Delia and several nieces and nephews. John was also predeceased by his brother Joseph and three sisters Alyce Mills, Elizabeth (Bette) DeLallo and Lee McPhee.
Mr. Honnessy served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, and upon Honorable Discharge, returned to Norwalk and purchased the family business from his father, which was located at 41 Railroad Ave. He operated this business for 21 years and later became General Manager of the Second District Water Department in 1970. He held this office until his retirement in 1986. John was Chairman of the Ward B Democratic Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, a member of the Building Committee of the Norwalk Court System, and was a Police Commissioner. He was a life member of the South Norwalk Boat Club and was elected President of the Shorefront Park Improvement Assoc. for five consecutive years.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 14 at 11 am at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery. John's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 pm - 7 pm.
