Ralph G. Bates, 90, of Norwalk passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012 in Allentown, PA. He was the husband of Adele R. (Grindrod) Bates and they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past September.
Born in the Cranbury section of Norwalk, Ralph was the son of the late Ralph and Dorothy (Ely) Bates.
Ralph worked 38 years for the Southern New England Telephone Company. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps bombing squadron 611. Throughout the years Ralph contributed his time to the Squadron locating all the veterans, organizing reunions around the country and publishing news letters.
Ralph's retirement years were spent in his beloved iris garden, traveling with Adele, volunteering for the Marine Corps League and the Cranbury Chapel. He was a member of the Saugutuck Congregational Church.
He was a family man who was kind hearted and known for his ready smile and good humor.
Surviving with his wife Adele is a son John and his wife Sharon of Allentown, PA and a daughter Sue of Rochester, NY; grandchildren Emily Rummelhoff and Sally Clemens and a great grand child, Liv Margaret Rummelhoff. He is also survived by his sister Beverly Rague of Ft. Pierce, Florida. He was preceded in death by a sister Evelyn.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 1st at The Community Baptist Church with Rev. Gregory Saunders officiating. Interment will be privately held.
