Shirley Spangler of 100 Bradley Road, The Hearth in Madison, CT and formerly of 152West 58th Street New York, NY passed away September 18th after a long and courageous battle with Cancer. Shirley was 88 years old.
Born on January 5, 1925 in Ames, Iowa to Leland Alfred and Dorothy Dodds Spangler. Shirley graduated New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL. She attended The Sorbonne in Paris, France where she became fluent in French. Shirley then moved on to college graduating Beloit College in Beloit, WI. Shirley had worked as a teacher for a short time, an interpreter for The United Nations as well as an Administrative Assistant for several Law Firms in New York City. Shirley frequently spent time in Rowayton, CT visiting family but the majority of her life was spent living on the upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City. Shirley enjoyed Ballet and playing the Piano. She had a knack for engaging people in conversation from around the world and all walks of life, listening intently to their stories and had a fascinating gift for remembering near every minuet detail they shared. Earlier in her life she enjoyed international travel and had become especially fond of Tehran, Iran back in the 1960's.
Shirley is predeceased by her brother Jack L. Spangler formerly of Essex, CT and leaves behind to cherish her memory her nephew William D. Spangler and his family of Westbrook, CT as well as niece Elizabeth S. McCabe and her family of Dedham, MA.
