CANDOR: Betty Zevetchin, 85, of Candor, passed from this life Friday afternoon, May 9, 2014 to her permanent home in Heaven. In her final days, Mrs. Zevetchin was visited by many family members and friends. She was preceded in death in 2008 by her husband of 62 years, Michael Zevetchin. She lived in the home built by her late husband's own hands nearly 35 years ago. Mrs. Zevetchin grew up in North Spencer during the Great Depression as the youngest of 10 children. She met her husband, Michael, while he was serving in the United States Navy, assigned to Ithaca, in 1945. They were married in 1946, and had four daughters. Mrs. Zevetchin is survived by her daughters, Pamela Mashewske and her husband, William; Cathi Haner and her friend, Tim Pipka; Steve Haner, son-in-law and his friend, Janice Watkins; Laurie Gossett and her husband, Forrest; and April Diles and her husband, James; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the last of her siblings to be called home to be with God: Carl, Pearl, Helen, Donald (Nick), Elsie, John, Wendell, Mary and Hazel. She and Michael were noted for their generous spirit and willingness to help members of their family and their community. Each Christmas and birthday, she and Mike stuffed cash into a greeting card for children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Spencer, and a devoted servant of Jesus Christ. Visitation is Monday, May 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Allen-Manzer Funeral Home in Spencer. Services will be Tuesday, May 13, at the Bible Baptist Church of Spencer at Noon. Calling hours will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon, preceding the funeral service. The Rev. Steve Barrows will officiate. Graveside services will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Spencer, where she will be laid to rest alongside Michael. There will be a reception at the church following the graveside service.
