Solat, Charles J.
Charles J. Solat (C.J.), age 66, Winder, GA, formerly of Ithaca, NY, passed away at home on December 31, 2012 from cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Paula; daughter, Cynthia Schwan and Kurt of Woodstock, GA; son, Philip Solat (P.J.) and Kalendra of Ithaca, NY; and his beloved grandchildren, Kacey and Corey Schwan; a sister, Susan Solat of Palo Alto, CA and several nieces and nephews. He is a graduate of Hamburg High School and the State University of New York Agricultural and Technical College at Alfred. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years during the Vietnam Era, and was a member of the American Legion and Moose. He retired as a research technician from Cornell University after 35 years of service. He enjoyed fishing and spent his summers at his cottage on the St. Lawrence River. He also loved working with his hands, and after retirement his woodworking projects included building his own fishing lures and wine stoppers.
A memorial luncheon for family and friends in celebration of C. J. 's life, will be held at the Trumansburg, American Legion, 4431 Seneca Road, at Noon on Sunday, June 30. Burial on Monday, July 1 at 10:30 AM at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Donations in C. J. 's memory may be made to Save the River, 409 Riverside Drive, Clayton, NY 13624 (www.savetheriver.org).
