Payton, Harold B.

Brooktondale: Harold B. Payton, 83, of Brooktondale, NY, was promoted to Glory on July 8, 2014 at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca. He was born in Auburn, NY in 1931 to the late Major and Mrs. Harold Bach and Esther Evans Payton of the Salvation Army. After serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, he returned to Brooktondale where he established his own business as a water well and water systems contractor. He was a life-long member of the Salvation Army, Caroline Town Supervisor for eight years, a volunteer fireman in Brooktondale and active in the community. In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by his sisters Lillian Drake, Esther Coles and Marion Longcoy; and his brothers Edwin and George Payton. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan Fenner Payton; sister Ivy Semeraro; children Jay (Ana) Payton, Jeffrey (Joan) Payton, C. Ben (Chris) Payton and Marcia (Willie) Payton-Harp; grandchildren Walliann, Alexandra, Andrea and Thomas; and great-grandchildren Jackson, Sandra and Troy, as well as many other family members and friends. A funeral service will be held at the Salvation Army, 150 North Albany Street in Ithaca at 2 PM on Saturday, July 12, where friends may call from noon until the time of the service. Private burial will take place at Quick Cemetery in Brooktondale.
