Hart, John H.

Ithaca: John H. Hart, 93, of Ithaca, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at the Hospicare Residence. Born in Ithaca, he was a son of the late Marion and Margaret Terry Hart. John had been employed by Morse Chain, Therm and Cornell University. A US Army veteran of WWII, he was a life member of American Legion Post #1134 where he had served as a past commander and was a proud member 40 years member of the Ritual Team. He was a longtime member of the Danby Federated Church. In the late 1930's be belonged to the VFW Drum and Bugle Corps. He loved trains (especially steam engines) and was very fond of bagpipe music. Mr. Hart is survived by his wife, Hazel Inman Hart; children, Paula Nelson, Terry (Bonnie) Hart, Jean (Richard) Sweet and Virginia (Joseph) Freedman; stepchildren, Roger (Diane) Sherman, Maxine (Byron "Butch") VanZile, Patricia (Danny) Card, Connie Sherman (Rick May) and Debbie (George) Figures; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Kenneth "Bob" (Nita) Hart, David Hart; and sister, Marian (Solon) Ogden; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Iona Hart (1975); and a brother, Donald L. Hart. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Herson Wagner Funeral Home, Pastor Ed Enstine officiating. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, and from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with Military Honors by members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team will follow in South Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Danby Federated Church.
