Mohn, Margaret

Ithaca: Margaret "Peg" Caroline Steele Mohn died June 16, 2013 at Beechtree Care Center, Ithaca. Born October 1909 in Waverly, NY, daughter of Frank J. Steele and Carrie (Granger) Steele, Margaret graduated cum laude from Keuka College with a BA degree in English Literature. She taught high school English before marrying G. Frederick "Fred" Mohn in 1939. Margaret taught for 25 years at Henry St. John Elementary School, Ithaca. Margaret was a volunteer and activist, working especially to guide and empower young women. She loved the theater, any kind of dancing, and to travel with special friends Deegee Bancroft-Gowin and Connie Lambert. Margaret was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca, the Ithaca Retired Teachers Association, Cayuga Study Club, and the Cayuga Trails Club. Margaret was predeceased by her husband in 1976, and sisters, Mabel Jones, Pearl Torrey, and Pauline Watson. She is survived by children, George Frederick Mohn Jr. (Annette Bydekarken), Weston, MA, Abigail Cable, Asheville, NC, Angela Mathieson, Sun City, AZ, and Lisa Dahl (John Liberatore), Rochester, NY. Margaret is survived by six grandchildren, Meg Hillie (Brad Mowrey), Iowa City, IA, Warren Mohn, Norwood, MA, Lindsay Mathieson, Los Angeles, CA, Waylon (Tracie) Dahl, Elmira, NY, Colter (Michelle Shanaghy) Dahl, Elmhurst NY, Alexandra Dahl (Kevin Green), Germantown, MD; five great-grandchildren, Violet, Cooper, Owen, Alia, and Gunner; and three generations of nieces and nephews and their families.
