"The Lord is my shepherd....I will fear no evil....."

Dr. Njoku Ekpe Awa passed away on July 21, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to those who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Njoku was born to Chief Ekpe and Ola Awa in Nigeria, West Africa, on December 1, 1938. He received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Michigan State University; and his Ph.D. from Cornell University. He was hired to teach in the Communication Arts Department at Cornell in 1974. He published numerous articles in his field of study, and traveled the world participating in conferences and setting up programs in different countries dealing with—Communication Planning and Strategy (CPS). He retired Professor Emeritus from Cornell in August 1995. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca where he was an ordained Deacon and Elder. He worked many years as a member of the church's International Hunger Program. He was a firm believer in helping others every chance he could. He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Ella Awa; his son Njoku E. Awa, Jr; his daughter Adaku Jones (Stevaughn, Sr.) and their children Stevaughn, Jones, Jr. and Ella-Rose Jones; his son Apia Awa (Colleen). We would like to thank the nursing staffs at Cayuga Medical Center, Strong Memorial, Cayuga Ridge Nursing Home, and Hospicare for their care and kindness through all of Njoku's difficulties.
