Gillette, Ross L.

Ross L. Gillette of Candor, NY , born 8/24/1927 in Lockwood, NY, to the late Ward Gillette and Sarah R. Harford, died May 11, 2013. Brought up on family farms until graduation from VanEtten Central School in 1946, served our country in the U.S. Army located in Guam, and south pacific. On returning went to work for Morse Chain and Borg Warner, retiring after 42 yrs of service. Ross is survived by his loving wife Arlene Silvernail of 62 yrs.; son Scot and his wife Patricia; daughter Rebecca and husband William W. Wakeman; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother Gene (Cathy) of VA.; sister in laws Evelyn, Alberta, Joan, with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by siblings: Cora, Ruth, Carl, Leon, Lyle, Ella, Hugh, and Ivan. Ross was a member of the Allen Memorial Baptist Church, serving on many boards. He was also a past member of Candor Fire Department and member of the Candor Emergency Squad as driver and EMT for 15 yrs. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the Allen Memorial Baptist Church in Candor, at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday May 14, 2013 from 5-7 at Estey, Munroe & Fahey Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, Candor. Also 10-10:45 AM prior to the service at AMB Church. The family wishes to thank extended family, friends, and Hospice for all the support, care, and love during Ross's illness. Please join us after the graveside service at the AMB church for a reception and fellowship. Memorial donations may be made in Ross's name to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, NY 13850.
