Charles W. Slayden
Charles W. Slayden, age 89 of Clarksville, TN, died on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Gateway Medical Center.
He was born on May 23, 1923 in Clarksville, TN to the late Charles Alvin Slayden and Willie Baker Slayden. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Jo Slayden and two brothers, Thomas Henry Slayden and David Wesley Slayden.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 2 p.m., at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel, with Chaplain Ted Denny officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. and Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 12 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Charles was the former chief of police for the Clarksville Police Department. He was a decorated WWII Veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater Phillipines and New Guinea. He was a member of Forest Street United Methodist Church and the Fraternal Order of Police.
He is survived by two daughters, Dr. Rebecca Slayden-McMahan and Debbie Hunt (Burnley); four grandchildren, Dr. Christopher McMahan, Jonathan McMahan, Paul Hunt (Mandy) and JoAnna Hunt; and four great-grandchildren, Kirstie Deatrick, William Benefiel, Kartyr Deatrick and Thomas Hunt.
The Clarksville Police Department Honor Guard will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chief Al Ansley and Don Trotter.
