Leslie Roland Roby

Leslie Roland Roby, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at his residence. He was born May 21, 1923 son of the late Zeph Leslie Roby and Maynie Jones Roby. Mr. Roby was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Eugenia "Sissy" Roby.

Mr. Roby graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1948; he was a lifelong member of the Erin Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a member of the Erin Rotary Club, served on the Erin Housing Authority for 18 years, served on the Highland Rim Economic Corporation Board of Directors, and was the 2004 Lord High Mayor. Mr. Roby served as the Erin Municipal Judge from 1972 through 2008.

After graduating from Erin High School in 1941, Roland began taking classes at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville TN. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the US Army after finishing his sophomore year in college. He was assigned to the 97th infantry division, US Army. The 97th infantry was assigned to the European Theater during WWII. After the surrender of Germany the 97th infantry was to go to the Pacific Theater. He was sent to Tokyo, Japan as part of the Allied Occupation forces. He ended his military service in 1946, and returned to Tennessee Tech to finish his education.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Nave Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Ferrell and Bro. Paul Moody, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery with Military honors.

Survivors include his son Bart Roby (Cecelia) of Atlanta , GA. Two daughters Janie Roby of Nashville, TN., Cheryl Roby of Erin, TN .,six grandchildren Angie Brake, Robyn Brumblay, Libby Bishop, Holley Guffin, Brad Roby, and Chris Roby, and nine great-grandchildren.

Special Thank You to his caregivers, Patsy Letterman, Wanda Self, Heather Varden, and former caregivers. Also a special thank you to Betsy and Larry with Tennessee Quality Hospice.

Pallbearers will be Norm Brumblay, Bradley Bishop, Zach Paton, Brad Roby, Chris Roby, and Brain Guffin. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Erin Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
