LAKE WALES - Mr. Alton O. Grimes, 83, of Lake Wales, Florida died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at his home, due to Alzheimer's disease.
He was born November 8, 1929 in Nowata, Oklahoma and moved to Lake Wales twenty-one years ago from Fort Lauderdale. He joined U.S. Navy in 1952 and was discharged 1956. He was a graduate of Springfield, Ohio High School (South), attended Wittenberg College, and graduated from Dayton University in 1962 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired from Bendix in Fort Lauderdale in 1989.
He enjoyed tennis, cooking, and gardening. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lake Wales.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Ethel Grimes, 9 brothers and sisters, a daughter, Geraldine Yo-landa Grimes in 1965, and a grandson, Arie deZanger in 2010.
Alton is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-nine years Carol J. (Danley) Grimes, son Benjamin R. Grimes and his wife Loren of Williamsburg, Virginia, his brother in law Donald J. Danley and his wife Gwen of Springfield, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held from the Conroy Funeral Home in Springfield, with interment at Rosehill Burial Park.
