LAKELAND - Carl Thompson, 64, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013, as a result of respiratory failure.
Mr. Thompson was born July 11, 1949 in Tifton, Georgia. He and his family moved to Lakeland in 1983. Mr. Thompson was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was the owner/operator of C & D Transportation, a local trucking company that he founded in 1994. He retired in 2006.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his son, Travis Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Darlene Thompson; son, Tracy Thompson and his wife, Leeann; daughters, Bonnie James and her husband, Jordan, Teresa Chitty, Tammie Mills and her husband, Craig, Tonya Mathis, Carla Horn and her husband, Jeff and Carol Palermo and her husband, Marc. He was also blessed with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Thompson's family will receive friends Thursday, December 12, 2013, from 10-11am. A celebration of Mr. Thompson's life will be conducted at 11am. Interment will take place at Leila Cemetery in Omega, GA. Condolences may be made to the Thompson family at
