WINTER HAVEN - Danella "Danni" M. Holden, 88, of Winter Haven, FL, passed on Monday July 1, 2013 in Winter Haven due to renal failure.
Born on December 25, 1924, Danni grew up in Crescent City, Florida. She earned a B.A. degree in Social Studies from Florida State College for Women, graduating the year before the college's name change to Florida State University. While a student at FSCW, Danni lettered in four sports and was elected as a member of the FClub. She also earned a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Florida. She taught school in Washington, D.C., Germany, and Apopka and Melrose, Florida. Before retiring, she worked as a guidance counselor at Lake Wales Junior High School.
Danni was a member of the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, where she achieved judge status and won numerous awards for her floral designs. She was also a member of the Winter Haven Camellia Garden Club, the Winter Haven Chapter of P.E.O (Philanthropic Educational Organization), and the United Methodist Women's Circle at St. John's United Methodist Church. She joined St. John's Methodist Church in 1970, when she moved to Winter Haven.
She had a life-long passion for water sports, gardening and floral design. Her greatest joy, however, was raising her four children and as wife to Dr. Clarence C. Holden, whose death preceded hers.
She is survived by a son, M. Lance Holden (Mia), of Winter Haven, three daughters: Shelley Holden Cooke (Steve) of Lutz, FL, Betsy Holden Ruff (Eric) of Gainesville, FL, and Lucy Holden Tyndal, of Winter Haven; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial services are at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, at St. John's United Church in Winter Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's U.M.C.
