WINTER HAVEN - Fredrick T. Lenfestey, a long time resident of Winter Haven, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 16, 2013, of natural causes.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, daughter Eve, sons Jim and Robert and one grandson.
Born in Tampa in 1920, he was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He graduated from The University of Tampa with a degree in engineering, The University of Fl. with a Master's and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
Dr. Lenfestey was the first president of Polk Community College, later to become Polk State College, and remained so for 19 years before retiring. He then served on the board at the Winter Haven Hospital as Director of Development.
Among his many honors were: Man of the Year award by the Knights of Columbus, Banker's Cup for Community Service in Winter Haven, Honorary Doctorate from the University of South Florida and another by University of Tampa, President of the Southern Association of Community Colleges and past President of the Winter Haven Rotary Club.
Dr. Lenfestey enjoyed serving the First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven as Deacon, Elder and Sunday School Teacher. In his younger days he was an active private pilot and enjoyed woodworking and water sports.
A memorial service for immediate family will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice.
