LAKELAND - Herman Christ Templin of Lakeland passed away peacefully on June 30th, 2014.
He was the first of three children born in Lakeland on January 8, 1927 to John and Hedwig Templin.
Herman is survived by his two sons, Jon H. Templin of Keystone Heights, Florida, H. Scott Templin of Austin, Texas and his wife Tammy Templin; one grandchild, Seth Templin, along with several generations of nieces and nephews. Herman is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Lenora Smith Templin.
Herman graduated from Lakeland High where he played quarterback. Later in years he would sometimes comment that "our heaviest lineman was 185 pounds back then". After graduating in 1945 he joined the Merchant Marines and sailed the world for two years delivering everything from aviation fuel for our troops to bananas. After a short time in Lakeland he married Lenora Smith and was promptly drafted by the Army and served during the Korean War in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After returning to Lakeland he worked with his two brothers, Howard and Walter at Templin's Inc. where he served as President from 1957 until retirement.
Herman lived and breathed the motto of quality construction and the adage if you are going to do it, do it right. He believed that community service was important and was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of the Downtown Rotary Club. He was one of the original founders of Faith Lutheran Church 60 years ago where he was an active member and president. Herman was a true gentleman devoted to his wife and children. Everything he did and said was always about doing what was right and good. He will be dearly missed.
