JAMES M.
BURNS, Jr., 80

TAMPA - James M. Burns Jr., 80, died November 20, 2013 due to cancer. Born in Tampa 7/14/1933.
A loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and friend to many. He was a mentor and role model to his children who exemplified the value of hard work, loyalty and perseverance.
Survived by his wife of 56 years, Susie Burns, his children Cheryl Lynn Jones and Jim Burns,
and his grandchildren, Mitchell Jones, Mia Bardales, James Mark Burns IV, Hunter Rose, and
The Mathes step-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his daughter, Holly Mathes and her son Rodney, his sister Audrey Ann Schad, and his parents James and Audrey Burns.
Served in US Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1954. Attended the University of Tampa. Managed several F.W. Woolworth stores in Venice and Clearwater, Florida. Director of Merchandising at Silver Springs from 1968-1974. Executive Vice President of Cypress Gardens from 1975-1986. Independent Manufacturer Sales Rep from 1986-2006. Member of the Ocala Elks Lodge BPOE, Clearwater Masonic Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite Tampa, Shrine Morocco Jacksonville, Florida and First Baptist Church of Venice Florida. Retired in 2007.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 10:30-11a.m. followed by the service at 11a.m. at First Baptist Church, Winter Haven, FL.
