LAKELAND - Scott Swygert died on November 1, 2013 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
He was born in Atlanta, GA. on September 17, 1968. He graduated from Lakeland High School, University of Florida, Emory University School of Medicine, residency at Johns Hopkins University, and a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. Scott was the Medical Director for the Hospital Medicine Service and the Chairman of Medicine at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, and he also served as the Chief Quality Officer and Chief Medical Informatics Officer. He served on the Board of Directors of the Watson Clinic and previously served as President of the Watson Clinic Foundation for more than a decade. When Scott was not at the hospital, he enjoyed spending time with his family, appreciating the Arts, and attending Florida Gator sporting events. He attended The First United Methodist Church.
Scott is predeceased by his mother, Patricia Todd Swygert. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Donna Haupert Swygert, daughters, Anna, Rachel, and Laura, all of Lakeland, father, Render (Peggy) Swygert, Sharpsburg, GA., brother, Todd Swygert, Tampa, FL., sister, Dana Swygert (Jason) Bowers, Lakeland, FL., and paternal grandmother, Mildred Swygert, Fayetteville, GA.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church Sanctuary. The family will receive guests immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
