BARTOW - Joe Ben Jackson passed away of heart failure, February 3, 2013. He was born in Wilkinson County, Ga. in 1935. "A Celebration of Life" service was held at New Providence Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, Ga., February 9, 2013.
Mr. Jackson graduated ABAC Junior College/ UGA with a B.S. in agriculture (1957) He was the first Junior College basketball "player of the week" in Ga. and continued to play at UGA. He was a member of the AGR fraternity and Alpha Zeta honor fraternity.
Following college, he served in the Army and Army Reserve for 6 years. His professional career began with the Soil Conservation Service in Dooly Co Ga. (1957), Wilcox Co. Ga. (1960), IMC Rainbow (1962), Ga. and S.C.; IMCD (1977) Fl. After retiring IMCD (1982), he worked at Bordo Citrus / Lakeland Packaging / owned and operated a family sod business with his son, Jonathan, until retiring (1992).
During his retirement years, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Ga. Joe Ben was a member of Scott Lake Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and S.S. Teacher.
Surviving him are his devoted wife of 55 years, Velma Jackson; two children, Sandy (Mark) Williams and Jonathan (Kim) Jackson; beloved grandchildren, Mark Aaron, Joseph, and Katy Williams; Hunter and Heather Jackson & their mother Jane Jackson.
