DAVENPORT - Lawrence Eugene Sweeney, 86, formerly from Steubenville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014, in Davenport, Florida, due to natural causes.
He was born on February 27, 1928, in Toronto, Ohio, son of the late Daniel Sweeney, Sr., and Margaret Millin Sweeney.
He was employed in the Fuel Department of Weirton Steel for 43 years. He was a US Navy veteran, a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge #583, and a past member of Dyer Country Club.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Shirley Hutton Sweeney; brothers Steven Colbert, Daniel Sweeney, Jr., Raymond Sweeney; and sister Leota Colbert Reynolds.
Surviving are: sons Tim Sweeney (Kathy) of North Canton, Ohio, Jerry Sweeney of Cumming, Georgia, Paul Sweeney (Tammy) of Steubenville, Ohio, Larry Sweeney (Jennifer) of Summerville, South Carolina; daughter Colleen Sweeney Hamm (Bob) of Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, and companion Delores Richardson of Davenport, FL. He had ten grandchildren: Shawn Sweeney (Jessie), Bonnie Sweeney, Shannon Holland, Matthew Sween-ey (Katie), Erin Sweeney, Paul Sweeney, Christopher Sweeney, Johnathan Sweeney, Summer Sween-ey, Keelyn Hamm. He also had five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 12 at the High Vista Club House at Ridgewood Lakes from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
