LAKE WALES - Mr. Norman S. Ford, United States Army, retired, 72, of Lake Wales, Florida died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Winter Haven Hospital of heart failure.
He was born May 3, 1941 in Monterey, Tennessee and moved to Lake Wales in 1981. He was a Vietnam veteran and retired from the U.S. Army in 1980 after twenty-three years of service as a Command Sergeant Major. He then retired from the Polk County Sheriff's Office. He was a Life Member and Past All-American Commander of the V.F.W. Post # 2420 in Lake Wales, American Legion Post # 335 in Hudson, Florida, Amvets Post #21 in Sebring, Florida, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #2391 in Lake Wales. He was of the Baptist faith.
Norm was preceded in death by his beloved wife of forty-nine years Shirlene Joyce Ford in 2011 and two brothers Ezra and Ted. He is survived by his son Vincent Stone Ford and his fiancé Melissa Forrester of Lake Wales, grandchildren Benjamin and Breanna, a sister Grace Swafford of Monterey, and his sisters-in-law Lisa Mackie, Penny Craighead, Vickie Loftus, and Zora Harville, all of Cookeville, Tennessee, Rose Sexton of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Barbara Cassilly of Spring Hill, Tennessee.
A Celebration of Norm's life will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at 3:00 P.M. at the Lake Wales Moose Lodge 3601 Hwy 60 East, Lake Wales. Full Military Honors and inurnment will be on held on Friday at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
