LAKELAND - Raymond Lee Givens, school principal & artist, died May 16, 2013. He was 98.
He was born in Simsboro, Louisiana on November 8, 1914. He received degrees from the University of Southwestern Louisiana & the University of Texas. He was a World War II veteran & served in the U.S. Army Air Forces 8th Division in the European Theatre.
In 1936, he began his career as an educator. He moved to Lakeland in 1956 & worked as a teacher & principal for 22 years. Upon retirement, he devoted his time to his true passion, watercolor painting. He was an active member of several Lakeland art groups and United Methodist Temple, Lakeland.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie, and his daughters, Sandra Haueter & Carol Hughes. He is beloved by his 4 grandchildren and his many nieces & nephews.
His colorful commentary while watching Orlando Magic & Tampa Bay Bucs games will be missed.

A private service will be held for the family in Lakeland.
