GAINESVILLE - Bob Carlson, 75, passed away Tuesday, June 25th 2013, at Oak Hammock at the University of Florida, due to complications with congestive heart failure.
Born in Live Oak, Florida on December 3, 1937 to Julia Henerietta Horne and Gene Franklin Carlson. He attended the University of Florida in Gainesville and was an honor graduate of Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, where he attained a BS in Accounting. He worked for many years at Peat Marwick/KPMG and Ryder, ultimately starting his own firm before semi-retiring in 2009. He spent all of his life in Florida (Miami, Homestead, Lakeland and Gainesville) with the exception of time spent serving the US Army in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, his brother James Edward Carlson and his son, also James Edward Carlson. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Gladys Anne Harris Carlson; sons, Robert Andrew Carlson (Liz), Daniel Edward Carlson (Rebecca); daughter, Jana Elizabeth Carlson; brother, Larry Morris Carlson; seven grandchildren, and many cousins.
His memorial Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, July 1, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church located at 106 SW 3rd Street in Gainesville, FL 32601. Dr. Robert Shettler of First Presbyterian Church will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the E.T. York Hospice Care (4200 NW 90th Blvd, Gainesville, FL, 32606), The Alachua Conservation Trust (7204 SE County Road 234, Micanopy, FL, 32608), the Oak Hammock Benevolent Fund (5001 SW 25th Blvd., Gainesville, 32608) or via a donation to your local church in Bob's name.
A strong Christian throughout his life, Bob served in a variety of elected member positions in churches everywhere he lived. Bob's big smile, generous spirit and servants heart will be sorely missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Arrangements by Countryside Funeral Home.
