U.S. Marine Corps

LAKELAND - William Earl George, Jr., 82, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 in Lakeland due to complications of pneumonia.
He was born September 18, 1930 in the Railroad town of Juniata Altoona, PA. Timmy, as he was affectionately called, was the only boy in a house full of girls. After graduating from Altoona Catholic High school in 1949 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, a career spanning over 20 years. During this time he served as a Drill Instructor, fought in the Korean Conflict participating in the Chosin Reservoir Campaign and 2 tours in Vietnam. He was married for over 58 years, to the former Diana Lope, the one true love of his life. Following his career in the Marines he relocated back to Altoona PA where Timmy retired from the Veterans Administration in 1991. A need for warm weather brought him to Lakeland FL in 2004 where he enjoyed reading, old movies and his 12 grandchildren plus 2 great grandbabies.
Survived by his wife, Diana; daughter, Denise Miller; sons, Timothy, Patrick, Roger and Ronald; grandchildren, Michael, Tony, Olivia, Shelby, Chelsea, Sydnee, Evan, Eric, Sophia George, Michael and William Miller; great grandchildren, Ethan and Nicole.

A memorial service will be held Thursday at 4:00 PM at the Gentry-Morrison Northside Chapel (5245 US Hwy 98 North).
