BARTOW - William Thomas "Tommy" Buxton, age 66, passed way from respiratory failure Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at home in Bartow. Tommy was born on November 4, 1947 in Bartow, where he remained throughout his entire life.
Mr. Buxton was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. After his service, he worked as a Boilermaker for the Boilermakers Union Local #433 out of Tampa before retiring. He then went to work for the Polk County School Board as a Boiler Mechanic before retiring just last year. Tommy was a member and "Contender" at the First Baptist Church at the Mall in Lakeland. He will be remembered as a loving, hardworking, and compassionate man of faith to everyone that knew him. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Tommy is survived by a loving family that includes his wife of 46 years, Sherry Buxton, his daughter, Stephanie Lee Gerber (Robert), his three grandchildren; Danielle Lee Gerber, Olivia Renee Gerber, and Sean Thomas Gerber all of Bartow. He also leaves behind his sister Priscilla Kopenhaver of CA.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 27th from 6pm to 8pm at Whidden-McLean Funeral Home in Bartow. Funeral services will follow Saturday, December 28th at 11:00am at the funeral home chapel.
