ABELARDO CASAS Obituary
ABELARDO CASAS MISSION - Abelardo Casas, a beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away on July 5, 2014 at the age of 97 at the Comfort House in McAllen. Born to Basilio and Guadalupe Casas on October 3, 1916, Abelardo led an active life dedicated to his family and faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elfida Olivarez, his son, Homero Casas, his daughter, Graciela Sanchez, his sisters, Locarita Garza, Lupita Reppen, Ester de la Garza, Romula Bell, and his brothers, Frank and Enrique Casas. Left to cherish wonderful memories are his sons Abelardo Casas, Jr., Frank Casas, Luis Casas and one sister, Sara Casas Luescher of Louisville, Kentucky as well as numerous grandchildren and one great grandson. Abelardo served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. His love for baseball began as a young player with Mission's renowned 30-30 Baseball League. He worked for Walker Craig for several years and for the United States Postal Office as a mail carrier upon his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Mission throughout his life. Best known by family and friends for his sense of humor, Abelardo could remember and repeat with great enthusiasm every joke ever heard which will leave a void at future family gatherings. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission with a rosary recitation at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 10:00 a. m. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Mission, Texas. Pallbearers will be Frank David Casas, David Bell, Chris Rogan, Javier Ramon Garcia, Ernie Pena III, Steven Noriega , Marcos Sanchez and Arturo Garza. Honorary pallbearers include Will Luescher, Isidro Garcia, Jaime Rivera, Frank and Sylvia Casas, Ricardo Martinez, Ernesto Pena, Jr., Arturo Lerma and Servando Canales. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Comfort House in McAllen, Texas in Abelardo's memory.
