AURORA CASAS DELGADO Aurora Casas Delgado slipped peacefully into eternal rest and into the arms of her Lord Jesus Christ while surrounded by family in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Aurora was born on March 7, 1949, into a hard-working family of migrant workers. In the hope of escaping the hot fields and backbreaking work she so disliked and quite often attempted to avoid in youth, she realized early in life the importance of an education with the help of her father. This early epiphany eventually led her to Pan American College and Stephen F. Austin State University, earning a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees in Education, culminating in an accomplished career as a schoolteacher and administrator. Although her professional journey began as a classroom teacher at Buckner Elementary in the PSJA School District, it was Mission CISD that she called home for the majority of her years as an educator. Experience in the classroom prepared her to step into a counselor role at Pearson Elementary, which, in turn, led to a twenty-year tenure as the principal at Leo Marcell Elementary. She retired in 2010, while serving as an assistant superintendent for the Mission CISD. Aurora was known for her passion, dedication, and desire to put the needs of the children she served first and foremost. She leaves behind a legacy of former students, teachers, and colleagues that continue the tireless work of educating and inspiring a new generation of learners and takes with her the love of many treasured friendships made. Mrs. Delgado is survived by her two loving children, Rey Ramos and Kristien Delgado Cook (Christopher), both of Pflugerville, Texas, and two beautiful grandchildren, Ethan and Ella Cook, who added so much joy to her final years. In addition, Aurora is survived by one brother, Fortino Casas (Imelda), and five sisters, Armandina Barrera (Ramon), Diamantina Garza (Oscar), Idolina Salinas (Roberto), Esperanza Loya (Armando), and Graciela Ramirez (Daniel). She is preceded in death by her parents, Francisco Casas and Manuela Buentello Casas, and husbands Gilberto Ramos and Manuel Delgado, Jr. Mass, in celebration of her life, will be held at St. John of the Fields Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Barrera, Fortino Casas, Jr., Marco Gomez, Armando Jesus Loya, Daniel Ramirez, Jr., and Carlos Rosel. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Oncology, St. David's North Austin Medical Center, and Encompass Home Health for their wonderful treatment and care.
